Richard Crawford, Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer, Rich Crawford brings more than 25 years of experience leading high-performance high-technology businesses.
Crawford has served in numerous senior executive roles across a wide range of high technology firms, including CSG International, Telution, MediaLinx and Channelinsight. Throughout his tenure, Crawford has directed strategic development of company sales and marketing initiatives and directly contributed to company growth in both market share and revenue.
In his current role, Crawford has directed SambaSafety’s growth into new markets and the continued development of its Driver Risk Management platform, delivered as Software–as-a-Service (SaaS) to more than 10,000 customers nationwide.
Crawford also led the acquisitions of American Driving Records and Softech International, which significantly expanded the company’s ability to provide cost-effective national driver record access. These acquisitions merged three strong client bases and provides a broader suite of risk management offerings.
Crawford, a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, is a national expert on driver risk management best practices and technology trends associated with bringing together a wide range of driver data across disparate technologies for safer drivers, businesses, and communities.
Chris McKay, President and Vice President, Corporate Development
Chris McKay manages SambaSafety’s strategic business relationships and is responsible for developing new product and market opportunities.
McKay, who joined the SambaSafety management team shortly after its founding in 1998, brings a well-established background in fleet and driver risk management as well as a deep understanding of transportation safety compliance and insurance trends.
A sought-after transportation safety expert, McKay regularly delivers presentations at local, regional, and national conferences on topics relating to fleet safety, risk management, and compliance.
Prior to joining SambaSafety, McKay led a number of entrepreneurial projects and also worked as a management consultant with A.T. Kearney in the Czech Republic, where he worked with industrial companies transitioning to the market economy.
McKay earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts degree in government and history from Claremont McKenna College in California.
Joe Johnson, Chief Financial Officer
Joe Johnson brings 26 years of experience managing accounting and finance within numerous industries that include communications, services, retail, distribution, mining, oil and gas.
Johnson’s experiences include mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and private placement of debt and equity financing ranging up to $100 million.
Johnson graduated from Regis University in 1987 with Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting and business administration and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Colorado Society of CPAs.
Rich Lacey, Senior Vice President, Product Management
As senior vice president, product management, Rich Lacey directs and oversees the product strategy and development of new solutions for SambaSafety and American Driving Records (ADR).
Lacey joined the company in 2013 and leads a product development team based in Denver, Co. In his role, Lacey is responsible for the creation and implementation of SambaSafety’s portfolio of leading driver risk management solutions.
Lacey brings more than 20 years of experience in product and architecture development and product management for leading technology companies.
Prior to joining SambaSafety, Lacey led Symantec’s product management and strategy for next-generation user, device and application management. He also played an instrumental role in managing Altiris’ Server and Client Management solutions.
Lacey studied Communications from Colorado State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems and Business Management from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Jeremy Smith, Senior Vice President, Engineering/IT
As a member of SambaSafety’s executive management team since 2009, Jeremy Smith directs the company’s technical vision and innovative suite of solutions, research and development and oversees the company’s product development, operations and IT groups.
Smith brings more than two decades of experience in leading product development and management teams for technology companies. Prior to joining SambaSafety, Smith directed product development for PrimeRevenue; co-founded Agility Squared; and served in numerous leadership roles at Think Tools, Inc., Metiom and Modis.
Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian, a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Utah.
Chris Stites, Senior Vice President, Sales
As senior vice president of sales, Chris Stites directs and oversees nationwide sales initiatives for SambaSafety.
Stites joined SambaSafety in 2013 and is based in the company’s executive offices in Denver, CO.
Stites has more than 20 years of sales experience with leading enterprise software companies. Prior to joining SambaSafety, Stites served as Area Vice President for e2open, a leading provider of cloud-based, on-demand software solutions. He also played an instrumental role as vice president of sales at AMS Software, based in Littleton, Co., and led sales activities for Oracle, PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards.
Stites earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from the Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.
